Health Circles

Target Group:

Basically, there are two forms to distinguish: Health circles that cross hierarchies, in which supervisors / executives / directors also participate, and health circles that take place at one hierarchical level. The participants can either be from a team / a department or can be composed across teams / departments. Depending on the question, it can be helpful for certain professionals to be present: occupational physicians, safety professionals, staff representation etc.

Description:

Health circles are used in organizations as a participatory instrument of health-promoting organizational development in the context of occupational health management. They enable needs in the area of occupational health promotion to be identified and suitable solution proposals to be developed. This is done by the employees themselves, who are the participants of the health circles. As a result, health circles also become a measure of occupational health promotion: the employees are given the opportunity to co-design their working world in a health-promoting way and to work together on a health project. At the same time, health circles increase the acceptance of the derived measures, as the employees have worked them out themselves and they are therefore extremely needs-based.

Goals:

  • Detection of stress and resources in the workplace,
  • Root cause analysis
  • Development of solution proposals

Key Success Factors:

  • There is clear support from and a willingness to change on the part of the management / directorate.
  • There is a health steering group that will receive the results of the health circle and is subsequently responsible for implementation.
  • What is discussed in the health circle must be treated confidentially.
  • The moderator can be external / internal, but should be familiar with the method of the health circle / be trained for it.
  • A final report with concrete solution proposals is put in writing and validated by the participants of the health circle.
  • The proposed measures should be implemented as soon as possible and transparently to avoid frustration among the employees.

Duration

Approximately 5 – 8 sessions of 2 hours each at intervals of 2–4 weeks Or more condensed: 2–3 sessions of 4 hours each at intervals of 1–2 weeks. The total duration must be clearly defined before the start!
