Addiction Prevention and Health Promotion

Addiction prevention and health promotion go hand in hand: Both aim to support people in leading a healthy and self-determined life. While addiction prevention aims to prevent risky consumption and the development of dependencies, health promotion strengthens general life skills and creates appropriate framework conditions.

Prevention work takes place at various levels: universal prevention sensitizes the entire society to a responsible handling of potentially addictive substances and behaviors. Selective prevention is aimed at people with an increased risk and offers targeted support to avoid problematic consumption. Indicated prevention helps those affected to prevent relapses and achieve long-term stability.

Health promotion strengthens protective factors such as self-confidence, social ties and stress management. It not only focuses on information, but also on measures that create a health-promoting environment – be it in educational institutions, companies, communities or in leisure activities.

Our goal as CNAPA is to enable people to make informed and considered decisions regarding their health and consumption behavior and to jointly shape appropriate general living conditions.
