Description:

As the global population ages, the topic of addiction in old age is increas­ing­ly gaining importance. This training course will illuminate various forms of substance use disorders and addiction, discuss the mul­ti­fac­eted reasons for harmful consumption behavior in advanced age, as well as strategies and measures for addiction prevention and treatment. A special focus is on the effects of harmful substance use and addiction on physical and mental health.

  • Definition and forms of harmful substance use and addiction in old age

  • Reasons for harmful substance use and addictive behavior in old age

  • Effects of harmful substance use and addiction on physical and mental health

  • Preventive measures to reduce the risk of addiction in old age

  • Treatment options for harmful substance use and addiction in old age

  • Dealing with consuming, older individuals

Objectives:

Promoting a better under­stand­ing of the needs and management of addiction in old age. Preventive measures play a central role in reducing the risk of addictive behavior in old age and improving quality of life. Relatives, as well as medical personnel and nursing pro­fes­sion­als, are of great importance as they can identify early signs of harmful substance use and addictive behavior and offer crucial support.
