Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses and can sig­nif­i­cant­ly impair func­tion­al­i­ty and quality of life. The connection between addiction disorders and depression is well documented. Early detection and treatment of both disorders can help prevent chronic courses and improve prognosis.

The lecture provides an overview of the biological and psy­cho­log­i­cal foundations of depression, typical symptoms and common man­i­fes­ta­tions, recognized explanatory models for their development and maintenance, as well as the connection between both disorders. In addition, the most effective therapy approaches will be presented.
